The 30-second verdict
Riverside is one of the strongest tools for anyone who wants to record a professional podcast remotely without asking guests to install complex software or send large files afterwards.
The most important feature is local recording. Riverside records each participant's audio and video on their own device, uploads the files in the background and gives the host separate tracks for editing. This is a much better workflow than simply recording a Zoom or Google Meet call, where compression, unstable connections and speaker switching degrade the final file.

Riverside is especially effective for interview podcasts, video podcasts, remote conversations, expert interviews, YouTube interviews, webinars, online courses, video testimonials and recorded panels.
The platform is not perfect. Its best-quality recording features are restricted by plan, high-resolution files require suitable hardware and enough storage, and the AI editing tools still need human review. It is also more expensive than simply recording an online call — but for creators who care about sound and picture quality, Riverside offers a significant improvement.

What is Riverside?
Riverside is a remote recording studio for podcasts, interviews, video conversations, webinars and online content.
Its main advantage is that it records each participant locally on their own device rather than relying entirely on the quality of the live internet call. The individual recordings are uploaded progressively during the session and combined into separate, synchronised tracks. That means a guest can appear on a poor Wi-Fi connection during the conversation while the final recording still retains much higher-quality audio and video than a normal video call.
Riverside also includes a browser-based editor, text-based editing, AI transcription, automatic show notes, Magic Clips, captions, screen sharing, a teleprompter and audio-enhancement tools.
How Riverside works
A typical Riverside workflow is:
- Create a Riverside account.
- Start a new studio or recording project.
- Choose the recording settings.
- Invite guests with a link.
- Check each microphone and camera.
- Record the session.
- Let Riverside upload each participant's files.
- Review the separate tracks.
- Edit the recording using the timeline or transcript.
- Add captions, branding, music or overlays.
- Create clips for social media.
- Export the final audio or video.
- Upload the finished episode to Buzzsprout, Spotify for Creators, YouTube or another platform.
The guest does not need to send a large video file after the interview because Riverside uploads the recording directly to the host's project.
Key capabilities
Local recording — Riverside's defining feature. Instead of recording the compressed call audio transmitted over the internet, Riverside records each participant's camera and microphone locally and uploads the files during the session. Local recording cannot fix a poor microphone or dark webcam, but it removes connection quality as the main risk to the final file.
Separate audio and video tracks — A two-person interview produces independent host audio, guest audio, host video, guest video and screen-share tracks. The editor can mute a cough, balance a quiet guest, or change the video layout per participant — control a single mixed recording cannot offer.
High-quality audio and 4K video — Paid plans support up to 48 kHz WAV audio and up to 4K video where the camera, device and recording setup allow it. 4K creates larger files and is most useful when footage will be cropped, reframed or repurposed; 1080p is sufficient for most podcasts.
Remote guest recording — The host sends a link; the guest joins through a supported browser or app without installing professional software or uploading files manually. Guests should still be told to use headphones, a quiet room, eye-level camera and to wait for uploads to finish.
Progressive uploading — Files upload while the session runs, so long interviews are already in the host's dashboard when the conversation ends.
Screen sharing and Media Board — Participants can share screens (recorded as separate tracks), and the host can prepare intro videos, images, music, slides and sponsor messages in the Media Board during the recording.
Teleprompter — Hosts can prepare questions, talking points, intros and sponsor messages on-screen. Bullet-point prompts work better than word-for-word scripts for interviews.
Text-based editing — Delete words or sections in the transcript to remove the corresponding audio or video — useful for long pauses, tangents and mistakes. Removing a word can create unnatural cuts when speakers interrupt each other, so cuts need review.
AI transcription — Automatic transcription in 100+ languages, used for editing, captions, show notes, blog posts, searchable content and repurposing. Names, accents and technical terms still need checking.
AI show notes — Generates episode summaries, titles, chapter markers, descriptions and social posts from the recording — always review before publishing.
Magic Clips — AI identifies potentially interesting moments and turns them into captioned, vertical, branded clips for TikTok, Reels, Shorts, LinkedIn, Facebook and X. The automatically selected moments are not always the strongest — check context, openings, captions and framing.
Audio enhancement — AI tools including noise reduction, filler-word removal, silence removal, volume balancing, speech enhancement and Magic Audio (plan-dependent). Overuse can make voices sound artificial.
Captions and branding — Caption styling, speaker names, logos, overlays, layouts and full brand kits on paid plans, keeping episodes visually consistent across YouTube and social media.
AI voice — Higher-tier plans can generate speech in the creator's voice for correcting a mistake or replacing a missed sentence. Use transparently — never to make a guest appear to say something they did not.
Mobile recording — Record through iOS and Android apps for on-location interviews, events and guests without desktop access. Check battery, storage, orientation and upload progress.

- Local recording preserves quality even on poor connections
- Separate audio and video tracks per participant
- Up to 4K video and 48 kHz audio on paid plans
- Easy guest access — a link, a browser and a microphone
- Progressive uploading removes post-call file sharing
- Browser-based workflow with desktop and mobile apps

- Magic Clips for fast social-media promotion
- Captions, overlays and brand kits for consistent branding
- Audio enhancement for uneven guest microphones

Where it falls short
- Free plan adds a Riverside watermark and only includes 2 hours of multi-track recording
- 4K video and 48 kHz audio require a paid plan and suitable equipment
- High-quality files are large and need storage and processing headroom
- AI clips, transcripts and edits still need human review
- Audio enhancement can sound unnatural if overused
- Guests still need reasonable microphones, cameras and lighting
- Monthly multi-track recording limits may restrict frequent creators
- Business pricing requires contacting Riverside
- AI voice raises ethical and consent considerations
- Not a complete replacement for Premiere Pro or Final Cut Pro
What to know before paying
- Free plan: 2 hours multi-track recording, 720p video, 44.1 kHz audio and a Riverside watermark
- Standard plan: 5 hours multi-track recording per month
- Pro plan: 15 hours multi-track recording per month
- 4K recording requires suitable cameras, devices and storage
- Local recording still depends on each participant's microphone, camera, lighting and room
- Files must finish uploading before the guest closes the browser or app
- AI Voice requires responsible, consented use
- Video production and editing cannot replace a full NLE for complex projects
Privacy & data
Guests join through an invitation link and their local recordings upload to the host's account — hosts should tell guests they are being recorded and how the content will be used. AI Voice cloning features should only be used with the speaker's explicit consent.
Commercial use
Recordings made on paid plans are watermark-free and suitable for commercial podcasts, client work and brand content. Review AI Voice, music and stock-media terms before using generated elements in sponsored or paid productions.
