Best for

Companies of any size — including UK and other non-US businesses — that hire or pay contractors and employees in other countries and don't want to set up local entities.

Skip it if

You only hire employees in your own country (a local payroll provider is far cheaper), you have just one or two local contractors, or you already have entities and local payroll partners in every country you hire in.

The 30-second verdict

Deel is one of the best platforms for hiring and paying people in other countries.

Its Employer of Record service solves a hard problem: employing someone legally in a country where you have no company. Deel's local entity handles the contract, payroll, taxes, benefits and compliance, and its contractor tools make paying freelancers in 120+ currencies straightforward. For a UK business hiring abroad, or a US company hiring in the UK, it's a practical alternative to opening subsidiaries.

Read our full verdict ↓

It isn't cheap. EOR starts at $599 per employee per month, on top of salary and employer costs, and every product is priced separately. Once you have several employees in one country, your own entity and local payroll may work out cheaper.

If you're hiring internationally, book a demo and model the full cost per country. If you only hire in your own country, use a local payroll provider instead.

What is Deel?

Deel is a global HR and payroll platform for companies that hire people in other countries. It lets you hire and pay international contractors, employ full-time staff abroad without setting up a local company, run payroll where you already have entities, and manage your whole workforce in one HR system.

Its best-known product is Employer of Record (EOR). With EOR, Deel's local entity becomes the legal employer of your team member in their country and handles their employment contract, payroll, taxes, benefits and compliance with local law, while the person works for you day to day. That means a UK start-up can hire an engineer in Portugal, or a US company can hire in the UK, without opening a subsidiary.

Deel says it serves more than 40,000 customers and has processed more than $20 billion in global payroll, with coverage in more than 150 countries.

How Deel works

A typical international hire looks like this:

  1. Decide how to engage the person — as a contractor, through Contractor of Record, or as an employee through EOR.
  2. Create a compliant contract in Deel for their country.
  3. Onboard them: Deel collects documents, tax forms and bank details.
  4. Each pay period, Deel processes invoices or payroll and pays them in their local currency.
  5. For EOR employees, Deel runs local payroll, files taxes and provides statutory and optional benefits.
  6. Manage everyone — local and international — in Deel HR.

Key capabilities

Contractor management — Compliant contracts, automated invoicing, tax form guidance and payments in 120+ currencies, with worker classification compliance.

Contractor of Record — Deel engages the contractor on your behalf and takes on misclassification liability.

Employer of Record (EOR) — Full legal employment in 130+ countries without your own entity, including contracts, payroll, taxes, benefits and compliance.

US PEO — Co-employment across all 50 US states with benefits included, for companies with a US entity.

Global payroll — Payroll for countries where you have your own entity, with tax filings and reporting.

Deel HR — An HR system for local and international employees: profiles, org chart, time off, time and attendance and reporting, with performance and compensation tools on higher tiers.

Deel Hire — Job posting, pipeline tracking, AI screening, offer generation, interview scheduling and AI interview summaries.

Benefits — Global and US benefits including healthcare, dental, vision, mental health, fertility and 401(k) through EOR and PEO.

HR, legal and tax expertise — On-demand support for employment questions across countries.

Deel IT — Equipment and device management for remote employees.

Deel pricing explained

Deel prices each product separately, per person per month, in US dollars. Prices are starting points; your quote can vary by country and setup.

Contractors — from $49 per contractor per month.

Contractor of Record — from $325 per contractor per month.

Employer of Record — from $599 per employee per month, covering onboarding, local compliance, payroll, tax filings, benefits administration and ongoing HR and legal support.

US PEO — from $125 per employee per month.

Global payroll — about $29 per employee per month, for companies with their own entities.

Deel HR — about $5 (Core), $19 (Advanced) and $29 (Elite) per employee per month. Some earlier reviews mentioned a free HR tier; it no longer appears on Deel's pricing page.

Deel Hire — from $14 per worker per month.

Deel says pricing is month-to-month with no long-term contract, and you can cancel at any time — though for EOR employees, local labour laws apply to notice periods and severance. There's no self-serve free trial; Deel offers demos. Remember the platform fee is on top of salaries, employer taxes and statutory benefits, which vary by country.

Who Deel is for

Start-ups hiring their first people abroad — EOR without setting up an entity.

Companies with international contractors — compliant contracts and payments in 120+ currencies.

Growing global teams — EOR, payroll and HR in one platform.

UK and other non-US businesses — a way to hire and pay in other countries that US-only payroll tools don't cover.

Getting the most out of Deel

Choose the right model for each person: contractor, Contractor of Record or EOR — misclassifying a full-time worker as a contractor is a real legal risk.

Model the total cost, not just the fee: add salary, employer taxes and statutory benefits for each country.

Once you have several employees in one country, compare EOR fees with the cost of your own entity and local payroll.

Use Deel HR to keep local and international staff in one system.
